The Myth of the Cliff
Long before the concrete structures, this cliff was a wild, divine outpost. Legend says the Pandavas spent part of their exile here in the caves. It is believed that Draupadi, needing water, prayed to the rocks, and a fresh water stream broke forth from the saline cliff edge—a miracle that still flows today in the 'Azhimala' (Hill by the Sea).
58 Feet of Fury & Grace
The towering Gangadhareswara statue is not ancient, but a modern marvel sculpted by P.S. Devadathan. It took 6 years of wind, rain, and concrete to shape this 58-ft form of Shiva. Unlike the calm meditative Shiva often seen, this is Shiva in motion—hair flying, holding the descending Ganga, staring directly at the crashing Arabian Sea.
